Artsy weekend in Lansing (Peppermint Creek, Boarshead, Lansing Symphony Chamber and MSU Symphony)

well.. who wudave thunk it!

Don't tell me that there is nothing to do in Lansing!

Friday night, October 28, we went to see "Fiction" by Steven Dietz at Peppermint Creek Theater Company. Mr. Dietz is an old friend, since he wrote the Dracula play for which I wrote the music, and Brad Rutledge who played Michael in Fiction, also played Van Helsing in Dracula, and StevenDietz also wrote The Lonely Planet where Chad Badgero and Louis Balestra met and became partenrs (business partners!!!) at Peppermint Creek, and Chad directed Fiction... and no matter how much I try it will not bring me to Kevin Bacon... But still, one of the most beautifully written plays exquisitely performed by a great cast... who can wish for more!

Saturday, October 29, we went to see Ms. Warren's Profession, G.B. Shaw play at Boarshead Theater with Paula Prentiss in title role (and Richard Benjamin, her husband, in the audience.) What a great show that was! Ken Beachler was cast as Praed, and he was magnificent. Ken, btw, directed Dracula with Brad Rutledge as Van Helsing who played Michael in Fiction the night before.

Sunday afternoon, Ocober 30, we attended a concert of Lansing Symphony Chamber Society with Richard Sherman, Desi Nenova and George Vatchnadze at Plymouth Congregational Church, and Sunday night we went to hear MSU Symphony Orchestra with Suren Bagratuni playing Saint-Saens Concert and with Ein Heldenleben by Strauss to conclude the weekend. That was a hell of Heldenleben, I must say. The orchestra soun ded awesome, and Igor Kalnin handled the very difficult violin solo part extremely well.
