Fanfare Magazine Reviews IRMINDEN: One Hundred Years of Bulgarian Piano Trios
This album of piano trios represents one hundred years of Bulgaria’s diverse and colorful history, enchanting audiences with haunting melodies, joyous rhythms, and the deeply rooted sentiments of a proud people. While common threads can be discerned through the three works in this album, the distinct personalities and wide-spread influences of the three composers offer an eclectic, yet wondrous journey to the ancient lands of Bulgaria.
Album includes works by Lubomir Pipkov, Georgi Zlatev-Tcherkin and Lora Al-Ahmad, performed by pianist Ilia Radoslavov, violinist Miroslav Hristov, and cellist Marta Simidtchieva.
Spectacular review of IRMINDEN: One Hundred Years of Bulgarian Piano Trios in July-August 2023 issue of Fanfare Magazine:
Each of [the artists] separately is the complete package—technique to spare, breadth of expression, consummate musicality—and, as a trio, they move and breathe as one, like a Hindu god with six arms. And the icing on the cake: the engineering is resonant, perfectly balanced, and comforting so that they sound at their best. Even resonances at the ends of movements are allowed to fade into complete silence—you can finish listening completely satisfied and take a breath.
I can’t praise the performances and engineering highly enough.
