Russian-born cellist Misha Quint and pianist Svetlana Gorokhovich present their new CD “Tempo Trapezio” (“Time Trapeze”). Referring to the trapezes and high wires of acrobats as they fly through the air, avoiding sudden death with their athletic and artistic displays on a daily basis, Quint presents a wide range of virtuosic repertoire on this recording: from the heart-melting and popular Schubert Impromptu, transcribed for cello and piano, to Richard Strauss’s early yet potently wise Cello Sonata in F Major, Op. 6.  The contemporary realm of music is represented by Krysztof Penderecki’s Per Slava for solo cello, dedicated to Rostropovich, and a new work by Swiss composer and former rock musician Thomas Fortmann called Sonata for Quintcello.  The CD provides a contrast in mood, form, genre, and essentially: time. Also represented are rare transcriptions of Stravinsky’s little-known works, such as the Pas de deux , movement from Divertimento for Violin and Piano from the ballet Le baiser de la fée (The Fairy’s Kiss), and Chanson Russe, also a transcription from violin and piano from the opera Marva.
