As Ed Mallett says, “different songs, different genres, different circumstances.” This new release on Blue Griffin Records, Right Frame of Mind, is the end product of a collaboration between a tenor, an euphonium player and a pianist – perhaps not the trio one is used to hearing – which has put its own creative stamp on some of music’s most iconic pieces. The soaring and gorgeous “Nessun Dorma”, the reverent “The Lord’s Prayer”, the moving “Vocalise” and the uplifting “Amen/Steal Away”, add some beloved show tunes and memorable patriotic pieces and you have a release that is certain to put you into the “Right Frame of Mind.”
