Nature’s Twilight Idyll (UmbriaEnsemble)

Blue Griffin Recording announces the August 7, 2026 release of Nature’s Twilight Idyll, an album of nine evocative new string quartets performed by Italy’s UmbriaEnsemble. Produced in partnership with the nonprofit collective Three Essential Elements, the album gathers works by nine composers from around the world to form a luminous portrait of the natural world, and inviting listeners into a shared, restorative space where music and landscape become one. 

From the nostalgic glow of a Pennsylvania lakeside sunset in David Martynuik’s Rhapsody: Evening at Lake Ariel and the gentle, winding grace of EMMY® Award-winning composer Thomas Bramel’s Lazy River Twilight Waltz, to the dramatic tidal shift and awakening birdlife of Garry DW Judd’s The Wash @ Lo Tide and the serene, emotionally exuberant stroll through Anton Rovner’s A Quiet Walk in the Woods, the works capture both intimate personal memories and vast natural cycles. Renewal and transformation thread through Vincent Kennedy’s Flower of Peace, the life-affirming birth of a stream in Vasco M. N. Pereira’s O Pequeno Rio (a tender musical elegy for a lost sister), and Javier Costa Císcar’s  …of Spring, which weaves echoes of Stravinsky and Vivaldi into its own verdant awakening. Igor Vorobyov’s Simple Music distills sound itself to its most elemental, nature-like essence, while Ilan Chouraki’s Fading of Pleasurestraces joy’s fleeting arc with the same honest beauty found in a flower’s fall or dusk’s quiet surrender.

Founded in 2011, UmbriaEnsemble — violinists Angelo Cicillini and Cecilia Rossi, violist Luca Ranieri, and cellist Maria Cecilia Berioli — has built a reputation as a “diamond” of Italian chamber music, with a discography spanning labels including Brilliant Classics, Sony, and Dynamic. Nature’s Twilight Idyll was recorded at the San Francesco del Monte Library in Perugia, Italy.
